Aircraft Front

Shown is a view of Marlyn, standing ready in its helicopter orientation.

Each Marlyn consists of the following components:

A: The Wings. Each aircraft has a detachable left and right wing, consisting of a main part, and a rotating Wingtip with engine and propeller.

B: The Midpart. This is the main body which houses all the main components such as the Camera Module, two Flight Batteries, and all the flight electronics such as the Autopilot and PPK. The midpart is also connected to the tail that carries the foldable helicopter-mode propellers.

C: The Wingtips. Each wingtip is able to rotate in order to control the aircraft during Helicopter Mode.

D: The Cover. Used to gain access to the internals of the midpart when for example changing the flight batteries or a transfer of the images from the camera.

E: The PPK antenna. Which is used to record the aircraft’s position. This is tied to each image in the Geotagging process.

F: The Helicopter Propellers. These propellers are used only during the Helicopter Mode flight and transition, and fold back during the mapping flight.

G: The Airplane Propellers. These propellers are used at all times, during airplane mode they provide the primary thrust, and during the helicopter mode they provide fine control especially in high winds.

Aircraft Rear

Shown is Marlyn from its bottom side.

H: Swappable camera module. This module includes the camera used to take the pictures for generating maps and 3D models.

I: Pitot tube. The Pitot tube is the silver/copper coloured tube and is used to measure the airspeed. This component is fragile and need to be handled with care. They should also be always kept clean and free of dirt and moisture.

J: Fairings. These tail and wingtip covers provide aerodynamic stability and also contain the smart anti-collision lights.

K: Maintenance Ports. These ports can be accessed by a licensed maintenance partner for quick repairs of Marlyn’s wingtip ESC’s and other components.
