Initial System Check

This is an initial check of Marlyn’s core systems before proceeding through the checklist in-depth. A view of the Initial System Check screen is shown.

Insert Navigator Modem

Connect the radio module to the laptop using the supplied USB cable, there will be a windows notification stating that the modem has been connected successfully.

Make sure that the antenna is an upright position with a clear line of sight. To assist with clear connection, align one of the antennae 90 degrees as shown with a clear field of view to the drone. Also ensure that there are no large metallic objects near to the module that could interfere with its workings.

This is a Passive check which checks the status of Marlyn’s batteries and the battery of your tablet/laptop. Clicking on the Icon shows the sub-menu which displays each battery which is checked; the left Marlyn battery, the right Marlyn battery, and the PC battery.

If the icon comes up as light grey then the status is OK and no actions are required by the user. In any other case the sub-menu will display the error, the details for each are as follows;

Result: OK, with warning message
Recommendation: Check flight plan for estimated battery consumption

Recommendation:
 Check if the Radio Module has line of sight to Marlyn and that the Module is plugged into the laptop USB (not a hub/splitter). Also try selecting different COM ports in the Settings screen.

Radio Controller Link

This is a Passive check which tests the status of the connection of Marlyn to the Radio Controller. If the icons come up as light grey then the status is OK and no actions are required by the user, in any other case the sub-menu will display the errors as follows;

Status: Connection Detected

Recommendation: Check if the controller is on and if there are no objects in between the remote and Marlyn. If problem persists check for other emitting items which may be interfering with the RC signal.

Autopilot

In this Passive check Marlyn will perform a number of self-health checks which will check the status of the autopilot and Marlyn’s automatic control systems. If the icon comes up as light grey then the status is OK and no actions are required by the user, in any other case the sub-menu will display the errors and required actions.

It might take up to two minutes from start up for this check to pass as the drone must have a GPS fix to pass this step. This is depending on the external GPS conditions.

Once these checks are complete, press ‘Next’ to move to the next checklist segment.
