Loading a Standard Map Layer
The first task when planning a flight is choosing the Map Layer. The Bing Aerial map is always shown as standard, but if you wish to alter this you can click the ‘Map Layers’ icon in the top-left corner, then click on the blue ‘+’ icon in the top-right corner to add a background layer.
Map Layer Selection
Upon clicking the blue '+' icon, the May Layer Selection menu will appear. In this
menu you can select different sources for the background map:
- A Bing Aerial satellite view
- An Open Street Map view
- A map from a WMTS source
- A map from a MBTiles (mapbox) source
- A previously saved Mapping Region
- A KML/KMZ overlay
- Elevation data from a WCS or local source
Organising Map Layers
When multiple map sources are present, the one loaded last will be rendered on top. The order in which the maps are rendered on screen can be altered by clicking the six dots in front of each map source and dragging it to another place in the list. A green line will appear to indicate the position in which the map source will be inserted.
In order to create a hybrid map, the opacity of each map can be altered by using the slider as shown.Individual Layer Options
Each map source has several further options that will become available upon clicking the down pointing arrows on the right of the opacity bar. A menu as shown will appear underneath with several options.
- The eye icon in the green bar toggles visibility of the map
- The garbage can icon deletes the Map Layer.
- The ribbon icon lets you add the map source to the favourites list on the adjoining tab to easily add this source another time.
- The arrow icon circled on the right lets you save the map currently in view for offline use. This can only be done when zoomed in to a certain level to prevent downloading very large files. A warning will indicate when the zoom level is not sufficient.
Downloading Map Layers
A favorited map source can be added by clicking the map icon and can be deleted from the favourites list by clicking the garbage can icon.
Loading an Elevation Map Layer
When loading elevation data from an online WCS source, first enter your WCS URL into the text box.
Loading an Elevation Map Layer
Now click on "Load WCS".
Select Preferred Layer
Finally choose which layers you choose to visualise on the screen and click on "Add Selected WCS".
Adjusting Elevation Scale
The resulting elevation map defaults to a scale of 9 increments between -200m to 8200m. To adjust this to fit your survey area, click the settings icon at the top right of the screen as seen.
